Ekspertene er enige: Søvn er viktig. På våre skandinaviske breddegrader burde det være en smal sak å sove godt i vinterhalvåret. Mørket senker seg jo allerede før middagen.

Dessverre har mange av oss problemer med å våkne behagelig uthvilte – det skyldes ofte at vi har vanskelig for å sovne. Spesielt skjermer med såkalt blått lys får skylden for det. Innrømmelse: Jeg har også TV på soverommet.

Men opp må vi, så hvorfor ikke gjøre det behagelig å våkne opp? En mulighet er å skaffe seg et wake-up light. I motsetning til en terapilampe handler det ikke om å bekjempe vinterdepresjonen eller SAD (sesongbetinget depresjon) ved hjelp av lys. Et wake-up light, eller en vekkelampe, skal i stedet hjelpe til med å falle i søvn, sove bedre og våkne behagelig.

Lys og lyder masserer hjernen din

Ekspertene er enige om at lys påvirker søvnen vår. Eller rettere sagt hjernen vår. Med en lyskilde, som langsomt stiger i styrke og går fra myke, varme farger til de mer klare, går vi fra dvask og uopplagt til frisk og uthvilt.

Omvendt kan et wake-up light også hjelpe med å falle i søvn. I stedet for å øke i styrke, gjør lyset her det motsatte. I tillegg kan lyder av for eksempel stille regn eller sikader dempe uroen i kroppen. Vi vil da slappe av og la søvnen innfinne seg.

Slik testet vi

For å teste om teoriene holder, har vi plassert fire lamper på soverommet. To fra Philips og to fra Lumie. Lampene er i en prisklasse hvor vi også har fått mulighet til å teste ekstra funksjoner. Blant annet tilkobling av eksternt lager, Bluetooth, hodetelefoner og forutinnstilte radiostasjoner.

Lampene ble testet over fire uker i løpet av september, hvor lyset er på tilbaketog. Ifølge den norske værappen YR forsvinner dagslyset om høsten med over et minutt i døgnet.

Deltakerne har ikke samme funksjoner, så de kan ikke direkte sammenlignes mot hverandre. I stedet er testens formål å sjekke om de hjelper til med å komme godt inn i drømmeland og våkne frisk og uthvilt. I tillegg testet vi om de ekstra funksjonene (som vi jo betaler for) reelt har en betydning.

Spesielt en av deltakerne gjør den primære jobben til høyeste karakter. Med hensyn til de ekstra funksjonene er svaret imidlertid i praksis nei.

Kanskje den verste vekkerklokken som finnes

Klokken er 07:40. Etter fire alarmer og en slumre-evne som gjør deg til olympisk mester i «buss-spurting», er du klar for å møte dagen. Om enn med genseren på vrangen, to ulike sko og et hår like flidd som «Weird-Barbie».

Omtrent slik begynte det, da sjefen på sitt mest pedagogiske vis, foreslo overfor undertegnede at «kanskje vi skal teste vekkerklokker?».

For det måtte da vel finnes en vekkerklokke som fikk meg opp av sengen, uten at jeg startet dagen med feil fot.

Derfor har vi testet flere, svært ulike vekkerklokker. Foruten det vi allerede hadde for hånden – en vanlig vekkerklokke, en telefonalarm og en bikkje – hentet vi også inn noen litt rare konsepter. En alarm som skyter opp en vifte, en annen som kjører rundt på gulvet, en tredje som lager kaffe og en fjerde som rauter i soloppgang.

Kunne noen av disse vekke oss, samt gi oss en god start på morgenen?

Svaret er ja.

Mens andre igjen får seg en flygetur på dynga så fort testen er publisert.

Vi fikk også inn en vekkerklokke hvor du måtte skyte fuglen i fuglekassen for å slå av vekkerklokken. Denne viste seg derimot å ikke fungere. The best wake-up lights

Most wake-up lights have a rather distinctive look, but the Beurer Wake Up Light WL50 could easily pass for a regular table lamp. It's stylish enough to look at home in any bedroom, and small enough to be handy for travel as well.

The simulated sunrise lasts 10, 20 or 30 minutes, with the light gradually brightening until it reaches full intensity at your preferred wake-up time, and shifting in tone from red to white. In case the light alone doesn't wake you, there are also several sounds to choose from, including birdsong, chimes, and standard alarm beeps. The significance of the bunker experiment extended beyond its immediate findings. It provided evidence that humans possess a circadian clock that can operate independently of the 24-hour light-dark cycle and that individuals can have unique rhythms. Is it better to wake up to light or sound?
